Lise’ is an instrumental music teacher and performs on trumpet, piano, alto saxophone and cello.  She started on piano in 1965 and on trumpet in 1969 and continued her education to acquire a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in 1982, and a master’s degree also in Music Education from the University of Kentucky in 1985. 

Lise’ has been performing and teaching private lessons since 1979 in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, and various other states.  She has performed and traveled with Festival of Praise and the Spurrlows from Florida, she performed at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg from 1984-1994, she freelances to play for weddings, funerals, and other events. 

Lise’ lives in Botetourt County with her husband Grant.

Timothy Murphy

Timothy Murphy, trumpet

Timothy grew up in Forest, VA and went to college at Liberty University.  He double majored in Music Education and in trumpet performance.  After graduation in 2014, he moved to Roanoke to teach Elementary music in Roanoke City Public Schools.  He actively plays in the Winds of the Blue Ridge and in his Church orchestra.

In his free time, Timothy enjoys running and hiking.  He lives with his wife and his daughter.

Elmore Falb is a mechanical engineer with an MBA who retired as a power plant Construction Superintendent and Maintenance Manager. He somehow always finds time to rehearse and perform on the horn during a demanding career. Elmore was the beneficiary of an exemplary high school music program and also programs at the Eastman School of Music, Elmore is currently the principal horn in three groups; Roanoke Valley Chamber Orchestra, Bedford Community Orchestra and the Winds of the Blue Ridge.

Elmore lives in Forest, Virginia and has recently had the opportunity to play with the Lynchburg Symphony. He enjoys home renovation. Once an engineer, always an engineer.

Matt went to music school at Ithaca College and New England Conservatory, studying with John Swallow. From there he spent 4 years in a Navy fleet band at Norfolk, VA, touring from Trinidad to Iceland, playing in the ceremonial band, stage band and brass quintet. While shifting careers to mechanical engineering in Rochester, NY, Matt performed and recorded with many Eastman musicians in local orchestras and chamber groups.

In the Roanoke area for the past 15 years, Matt has played with Valley Chamber Orchestra, Bedford Symphony, New Valley Symphony, Virginia Tech Trombone Ensemble, Sway Katz, Let’s Dance Band, Star City Brass Quintet, Slides Rule trombone quartet and many church and pickup groups. Matt enjoys hobbies of fishing and gardening.

Luke helps the SCBQ round out our age diversity requirements. He is the newest and youngest member of our group. Luke is a graduate of Northside High School, and lives in the Hollins area. He plays in the Roanoke College Concert Band under the direction of Dr. Marc LaChance. Luke also takes private tuba lessons with Dr. LaChance. Luke is also enrolled at Virginia Western.

Dr. LaChance has played with the SCBQ in the past, and remains a valued friend of the group.

Marc received a Bachelor of Music Education degree at the University of Northern Colorado, a Master of Music from Bowling Green State University (OH) and a Doctor of Music Arts from the University of Illinois. Dr. LaChance has had a long and varied career in music, teaching and performing in both the classical and jazz idioms. He has also had a long relationship with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan, serving over the last 15 years as a trombone instructor and Assistant Program Coordinator. As a writer, his arrangements have been performed by the Hasting Symphony, Epic Brass Quintet, and the Hamilton Philharmonic (Ontario, CA), and have been published by Cherry Classics Music and West Wind Music.

Previous to becoming Director of Bands at Roanoke College, Dr. LaChance held positions at Hastings College (Hastings, NE), Eastern New Mexico University, and public schools in Colorado, Minnesota and Michigan.
